Usage: Zyban is a smoking cessation aid used to help you stop smoking.

Directions: Follow the directions for using Zyban provided by your doctor. Zyban comes with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about Zyban. Swallow whole. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing. If you are taking more than 1 dose each day, allow at least 8 hours between doses. Store Zyban at room temperature, away from heat and light. If you Miss a dose of Zyban, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Side Effects: Side effects, that may go away during treatment, include restlessness, agitation, dizziness, dry mouth, difficulty sleeping, headache, nausea, vomiting, constipation, change in weight, or tremor. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. Check with your doctor as soon as possible if you experience confusion, rash, itching, or seizures. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.

Precautions: It takes 1 week for Zyban to work. Do not stop taking Zyban without checking with your doctor. During the first week of taking Zyban you should continue to smoke. You should plan to stop smoking during the second week of taking Zyban. Zyban may cause dizziness or a change in vision. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Zyban. Do not drink alcohol while you are taking Zyban. Before you begin taking any new medicine, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. For women: Zyban is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Zyban.

Drug Interactions: Drug interactions can result in unwanted side effects or prevent a medicine from doing its job. Before taking bupropion tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medications you may use especially MAO inhibitors (e.g., isocarboxazid, phenelzine, tranylcypromine, pargyline, selegiline, furazolidone), levodopa, theophylline, corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), seizure medications, sedatives, ritonavir, tranquilizers/psychiatric drugs (e.g., chlorpromazine), other antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline), salicylates (e.g., aspirin, salsalate), isoniazid, chlolinesterase inhibitors (e.g., tacrine, donepezil), morphine, and adrenaline-like drugs (e.g., pseudoephedrine). Excess caffeine intake can increase the chance of seizures with this drug. Check all nonprescription/prescription drug labels for caffeine. Consult doctor or pharmacist. A certain product used to help quit smoking contains bupropion. Do not take that product while using this one.

If You Take Too Much: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include blurred vision, lightheadedness, confusion, nausea, and seizures.

Missed Dose: Take any missed dose as soon as possible but not if it is within 8 hours of the next dose. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not "double up" the dose.

Storage: Store at room temperature and keep away from moisture and sunlight. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
